Fesenmeyer, nee Sunderman, passed away Sept. 11, 1998.  She was born November 13, 1893, in Clarenda [Clarinda], Iowa.  Rose was educated in Lutheran School, where all teaching was done in German.  She often spoke about the difficulty she had learning English when, after the war (WWI), they were forbidden to speak German.  Rose met and married Lee Fesenmeyer in 1912.  They had two daughters who died in infancy; one shortly after birth, the other from diphtheria.

In 1918, Rose and Lee moved to Ft. Morgan, CO, where Lee worked as a mechanic. Rose worked in a variety store for a short time.  They then moved to Denver where they lived until Lee died.

Rose moved to Rye in the early 60’s, fulfilling a lifelong dream of living in the mountains.  She called her place Hummingbird Hill and she loved watching and feeding birds of all kinds, but especially the hummers.  She was an avid reader, and also kept her hands busy with quilting and embroidering.

Rose was a favorite of the local 4–H groups, who adopted her as Grandma for two years  She loved to have them in for treats when they came caroling at Christmas time. She greeted everyone with a smile, a positive attitude, and a great sense of humor.

In 1983, she was no longer able to live alone, so she moved in with her dear friend, Anne Decker.  By 1993, her health was such that she had to go into a nursing home.

Rose was a good friend of the Rye Home Methodist Church, and was visited often by the young women’s Faith Circle.

Rose was laid to rest in Brookside Cemetery September 15, 1998, just weeks short of her 105th birthday.  She is survived by one nephew, Leroy Nelson of Charles City, Iowa, and several grand nieces and nephews.  She will be missed by special friends Ruth McKinzie, Esther Peterson, and Dale Graham, who were long time neighbors in Denver, and by Anne Decker and family.  [publication information unknown]
